# Managed IT and low voltage in Detroit, MI

Older buildings, busy storefronts, and a downtown that is filling up. Detroit work comes in two kinds. Downtown, Midtown and New Center have offices in older buildings, many converted from one use to another, and downtown office occupancy was above 93% at the end of 2025. Along the main corridors there are storefronts where cameras, lighting, and a network that stays up are part of keeping the doors open. Both mean masonry walls, plaster ceilings, and renovated floors where nobody kept a drawing of the cable. We survey the existing pathways first and document what we leave behind.

## What the work looks like in Detroit

- Cabling and Wi-Fi in older masonry and plaster buildings, planned around the risers and pathways the walls already have.
- Exterior cameras, conduit, and card readers on a building in a local historic district can need Historic District Commission review before the permit. We raise it at the survey, not after the work.
- Cameras, access control, and networks for storefronts and multi-site retailers, with the same equipment and settings at every location.
- Managed IT and security monitoring for Detroit offices and nonprofits, including nonprofit Microsoft licensing.

## Common questions

**Can you cable an older building without opening every wall?** Usually. We trace existing pathways and risers first and reuse them where they are sound. Where there is no path, we say so in the scope, with the option and the cost, before any work starts.

**What does Project Green Light require of a business?** Project Green Light is the Detroit Police Department's camera partnership with businesses. The city's business agreement asks for at least four 1080p IP cameras dedicated to the program, outdoor cameras that can capture license plates, at least 30 days of stored video, an upload connection of at least 10 Mbps at all times, lighting to set levels, and the green light and signs. The business pays for equipment, installation, and a cloud subscription; there is no fee to the city. Installers must be approved by DPD, so ask any vendor for that approval before you sign. The full terms are on the [city's agreements page](https://detroitmi.gov/departments/police-department/project-green-light-detroit/agreements).

**Do you work with Detroit nonprofits?** Yes. Most start with an assessment, sold on its own, and many may qualify for discounted or granted Microsoft licensing. See [nonprofit organizations](https://lnxinc.com/industries/nonprofit/).
